Quittner’s Stark View Lodge is centrally located between Burlington, Lake Champlain and Middlebury. All are an easy, scenic drive of under an hour. Guests coming by air will find it a pleasant 25-mile drive from the airport. Within minutes, skiers can be at Mad River Glen and Sugarbush ski areas, and many guests find our closeness to Canada makes for an enjoyable day trip.

From our driveway it’s a quarter mile to Route 17, and just minutes from there to Mad River Glen.

There are numerous restaurants nearby to fit a variety of budgets and appetites, from family menus to fine dining. We’re lucky to have numerous shops, museums and attractions — and most of all, an abundance of outdoor activities.

Through the Heart of Vermont Lodging Association, we offer our guests a variety of discounts to area sites and restaurants, and in winter skiers receive substantial discounts at the nearby ski areas and Stowe.

Quittner’s is located on a noted bike route that’s popular for its variety of terrain. The rivers and lakes provide natural opportunities for swimming, kayaking, canoeing, boating and fishing, and the numerous swimming holes make for a great outing by car or bike.

Driving directions

Choose where you’re coming from. Look for two buildings, one brown and one yellow, about a quarter mile from Route 17 on the Gore Rd.

From New York / New Jersey
  1. Travel the New York Thruway (I-87) north to exit 24, Albany.
  2. After exit 24, continue on the Northway (I-87).
  3. Exit the Northway at Fort Ann, exit 20, to Rt. 9.
  4. Follow Rt. 9 north about 1 mile, then turn right onto Rt. 149 east to Fort Ann.
  5. At the light in Fort Ann, turn left onto Rt. 4 east.
  6. Follow Rt. 4 to exit 2 for Rt. 22A north toward Vergennes.
  7. Travel approximately 34 miles north to Addison, where you take a right at the four corners onto Rt. 17 (8 miles to Rt. 7).
  8. Turn right onto Rt. 7, then make the next left onto Rt. 17 to New Haven and on to Bristol. (This stretch is so short it may not show on your map — just follow these directions.)
  9. 3 miles out of Bristol, turn right to stay on Rt. 17.
  10. In approximately 7.5 miles, look for the sign to Huntington on the right side of the road. Make a left turn after the sign onto the Gore Rd.
  11. Quittner’s is the second place on the left: two buildings, one brown and one yellow, ¼ mile from the turn.

From the Boston area via I-89, Richmond (exit 11)
  1. Travel I-93 north to I-89 (near Concord, NH).
  2. Follow I-89 north toward Montpelier, VT.
  3. After the Waterbury exit, take exit 11, Richmond.
  4. After you leave I-89, turn left onto Rt. 2 east.
  5. Follow Rt. 2 for about 1 mile and take the first right at the light, Bridge Rd. Follow it through Huntington Village and Huntington Center for 15 miles.
  6. Look for a yellow building and a brown building on the right side. If you pass them, you’ll reach Rt. 17.
  7. If you reach Rt. 17, turn around: Quittner’s is the second place on the left, ¼ mile from Rt. 17.

From the Boston area via Mad River Glen
  1. Travel I-93 north to I-89 (the I-89 entrance is near Concord, NH).
  2. Follow I-89 north toward Montpelier, VT.
  3. After the Montpelier exit, take exit 9, Middlesex.
  4. After you leave I-89, make two left turns onto Rt. 2.
  5. Follow Rt. 2 for about ½ mile to the first right turn, Rt. 100B south. Follow it to Waitsfield.
  6. As you leave Waitsfield, look for Rt. 17 on the right.
  7. Follow Rt. 17 to Mad River Glen Ski Area, then continue on Rt. 17 over the mountain approximately 4 miles and take the first right turn, the Gore Rd.
  8. Quittner’s is the second place on the left from the Rt. 17 intersection: two buildings, about ¼ mile from Rt. 17.

From western Connecticut via Route 7
  1. Pick up Rt. 7 north and follow it to Middlebury, VT.
  2. Continue north on Rt. 7 to New Haven Junction and turn right onto Rt. 17.
  3. Follow Rt. 17 to Bristol.
  4. 3 miles out of Bristol, look for the right turn to stay on Rt. 17. Follow Rt. 17 for 7.5 miles.
  5. Look for the sign to Huntington on the right side of the road and take the next left, the Gore Rd.
  6. Quittner’s is the second place on the left: two buildings, no more than ¼ mile from Rt. 17.

From Mad River Glen Ski Area
  1. From Mad River Glen, continue on Rt. 17 over the mountain approximately 4 miles and take the first right turn, the Gore Rd.
  2. Quittner’s is the second place on the left from the intersection: two buildings close to the road, about ¼ mile from Rt. 17.

From Burlington International Airport
  1. Turn left onto Airport Parkway and follow it to Rt. 2 (Williston Rd.).
  2. At the light, turn left and follow Rt. 2 to Richmond.
  3. At the light in Richmond, turn right onto Main Rd.
  4. Follow it through Huntington Village and Huntington Center for 16 miles.
  5. Look for a yellow building and a brown building on the right side. If you pass them, you’ll reach Rt. 17.
  6. If you reach Rt. 17, turn around: Quittner’s is the second place on the left, ¼ mile from Rt. 17.
